Estrangement Objectification Theory
Estrangement Objectification Theory is based on my clinical experience working with estranged parents, adult sons, and adult daughters. A common grievance of adult children during childhood is that they felt unheard, unseen, invalidated, and/or unloved. A common realization for parents is that they unconsciously married and had children to address an unmet need from their own childhood. Therefore, the child becomes the OBJECT or tool meant to fulfill the parent's unmet need resulting in a child whose feelings, needs, and identity were neglected, devalued, and disregarded.
